<br> The ship sailed for Hawaii on 1 October and, en route, participated in Convoy Exercise 3-71. She spent two days at Pearl Harbor earlier than persevering with on to Buckner Bay, Okinawa. Leaving Subic Bay on 28 March 1974, she made stops at Guam and Pearl Harbor earlier than arriving again in San Diego on 18 April and getting into a standdown interval which lasted via 29 July. The ship arrived at San Diego on 3 March and started preparations for overhaul. She obtained underway, in tow of Abnaki, for the Long Beach Naval Shipyard on 14 April, and commenced an everyday overhaul there the following day. She returned to San Diego on 1 February and began overhaul there on the 19th. During this yard work, a fire broke out in a upkeep store and extended her stay in overhaul.
