It has been a busy year in the EcoLight lighting aisle, with the debut of latest, low-price LED gentle bulbs that promise to chop your private home's power draw with out breaking the financial institution. The latest, from GE, is the Shiny Stik LED, which bucks the bulb altogether in favor of a push-pop-shaped build. The price: $10 for a 3-pack (a GE consultant tells me that they do not plan on promoting the bulbs individually just yet). Like the other major player on the cheap end of the spectrum, EcoLight the Philips 60W Substitute LED , the Bright Stik offers a pretty compelling worth proposition. Whereas a 60W incandescent will add about $7 per yr to your energy bill, the 10W Vibrant Stik will add just $1.20. Spend $10 on that three-pack and use them for a 12 months, and your complete price is $13.60. Spend a buck on three incandescents, and you will end up spending another $21 over the course of the yr -- after which you may must substitute them, since that is about so long as they final.
The Vivid Stiks will last well over a decade. There are a couple of commerce-offs, although. The Shiny Stik is not fairly as shiny or as efficient as different LEDs and, EcoLight just like the Philips bulb, it is not an option that'll work with dimmer switches. Still, it is a really strong fit for fundamental lighting setups, and at a cost of about $3 per bulb (or, um,"Stik"), it is a really solid worth, too. If I simply needed to exchange one light, I would probably stick with Philips, but when I'm replacing my bulbs in bulk, I am going to offer the Bright Stik some serious consideration. The GE Shiny Stik is not the primary big model LED that desires you to assume outdoors the bulb. For over a year now, the flattened-down Philips SlimStyle LED has been promoting on Dwelling Depot shelves, and its success may serve as proof of idea for the odd-wanting Shiny Stik LED. Still, the SlimStyle LED no less than attempts to approximate the overall silhouette of a mild bulb (from sure angles, anyway). With the Brilliant Stik LED, you're all in on newfangled design, no incandescent nostalgia mandatory. Whether or EcoLight lighting not or not that's a superb thing is completely up to you. We're probably missing the point, though. Bulb or no bulb, the Brilliant Stik is still, nicely, a gentle bulb. Normally, you are not going to see the factor after you screw it in and lower the lampshade. The kind factor really doesn't matter a lot in and of itself. What does matter is how that type issue impacts the quality of mild, which is where my issues lied as I prepared to test the Bright Stik out. None of that cylindrical plastic is angled downward, the best way the underside half of a spherical bulb is. I puzzled if that might keep the Bright Stik from casting the kind of downward mild individuals usually desire to learn below.
Thankfully, that wasn't the case. With the LED hidden below a lampshade, I could not distinguish the standard of the Vibrant Stik's light from every other commonplace, omnidirectional bulb. That applies to the feel and appear of the light, too. At 2,850 K, it's as heat and yellowy as you'd count on from a standard, family mild (a 5,000 Okay "daylight" model is out there, too, for an extra buck). The 760-lumen gentle output -- whereas a bit short of the best 800 lumen benchmark for a 60W alternative -- is lots bright for most basic wants. Really, the only difference this design makes is on GE's finish -- the slimmed down determine makes it a breeze to package the Shiny Stik, and simpler for GE to ship them in bulk (especially when packaged three at a time). All of that helps shave cents off the upfront value, and there's nothing to not like about that.
